Aniki Legwale’s story is one of passion, perseverance, and purpose. Born and raised in Pella Matlhako in the Moses Kotane Municipality, she grew up in a family of six as the third child and the eldest daughter. Today, she is not only a devoted mother but also a beacon of hope for countless children and young people in her community.
From an early age, Aniki dreamt of becoming a teacher. While she never entered the classroom in a formal sense, she discovered her true calling in a different but equally powerful way, mentoring learners, guiding them in career choices, and ensuring their dignity and confidence are protected. She reflects that her greatest joy comes from seeing the smiles of young people whose lives are touched by her work.
Aniki serves as the Secretary of the Pella Matlhako Development Group (PMDG), a non-profit organisation established in 2010 and formally registered in 2014 with the Department of Social Development. The organisation was founded to close the gaps learners faced in career guidance and access to opportunities. Under her leadership, PMDG has grown into a trusted platform for education and youth empowerment, focusing on career exhibitions, motivational talks, school campaigns, skills development workshops, and women empowerment seminars.
Her work does not stop at mentorship. Aniki is deeply committed to tackling real challenges faced by learners and communities, including access to basic necessities. Through PMDG, she has championed campaigns that distribute sanitary pads and school shoes, ensuring that no child is left behind due to lack of resources. She believes in the power of small acts of kindness that have long-lasting impacts on the lives of others.
In 2022, she helped lead the Pella Young Women Seminar, held at the Pella Tribal Hall, where learners from local high schools gathered to discuss pressing issues such as teenage pregnancy, crime, mental health, and gender-based violence. This event reflected her belief that empowering young women with knowledge is key to building safer and stronger communities.
For Aniki, community service is more than a role, it is her life’s mission. She describes herself as driven by perseverance and a determination to see change, not for recognition, but for the smiles and renewed hope of those she serves. Every career exhibition, every motivational talk, and every campaign she helps lead is a step toward her vision of a community where education, empowerment, and dignity are within everyone’s reach.
